Audio Collection for Speech Recognition

The Danish company Dictus is currently working on developing Faroese speech recognition. This speech recognition will work on Dictus SUN, which is a programme that can transcribe what you're saying on Windows, Mac, and Chromebook computers.

The foundation of a speech recognition lies in large amounts of sound and text. To make the speech recognition even better, it is necessary to obtain even more recordings of the Faroese language.

In order to improve its speech recognition for Faroese, Dictus has started collecting voice data. They do this by allowing anyone to visit a website where they can read some sentences out loud. This can be done on both mobile phones and computers. The recordings are then stored and used to train the Faroese speech recognition. The recordings collected by Dictus will later be shared with the Centre for Language Technology which will manage and use freely so that everyone in the future can benefit from them.
