MMG-2026 is the 2026 release of Miklamálgrunnurin (Faroese MegaWord Corpus), developed by the Centre for Language Technology (Máltøknidepilin) at the University of the Faroe Islands. The corpus contains approximately 59 million words (70.6 million tokens, including punctuation) from 65 subcorpora, covering a wide range of text types, sources, and time periods.
The corpus has been automatically annotated with part-of-speech tags, morphological features, and lemmas using BRAGD and Bendingar. It also includes document-level metadata, such as title, author, publication year, text type, and source. The data are structured in TEI XML format.
MMG-2026 is intended for linguistic research and the development of Faroese language technology. Potential applications include language model training, lexical and frequency analysis, morphological analysis, and the development and evaluation of NLP tools.
A selection of the corpus is available for download on Hugging Face. Not all texts in Miklamálgrunnurin can be redistributed, and users should consult the dataset documentation for information about the included material and applicable usage rights.
The full corpus can also be searched through the Miklamálgrunnurin search interface.
