Help Develop Faroese Machine Translation

This is a major step forward for Faroese language technology, now that the new translation platform um.setur.fo has been launched. The website is part of a translation project supported by Research Council Faroe Islands. The goal is to develop a high-quality, open-source machine translator from English to Faroese, ensuring that we, Faroese people, have greater influence over our own digital language.

To make the translations as good as possible, we need your help. We encourage everyone to use um.setur.fo for everyday translation tasks. Every time you translate a text, rate a translation, or correct a sentence, this information is used as data to train and improve the translation model itself.

By participating, you help strengthen Faroese independence within language technology. Instead of being tied to major international tech giants, we are developing a service here that is based on real Faroese language use. All material developed in the project will be open and accessible to everyone - researchers, developers, and companies alike.

Your contribution matters for how Faroese will be shaped on digital platforms in the future. Visit um.setur.fo and make a difference by translating, correcting, and rating! We hope as many people as possible will be active on this platform and help us reach our goal.

If you would like to learn more about the translation platform, you are welcome to Kongshøll on Monday, February 9th at 3 p.m., when it will be presented at a public event.
