Free Text-to-Speech and Speech Recognition

The Talutøkni Foundation has now made the tools Teldutala.fo and Dictus available to all students in the Faroe Islands. This makes everyday life easier for those who struggle with writing and reading.

With Teldutala.fo Speech Synthesis , you can have text read aloud in Faroese, and now everyone has access to the website. You simply need to create a free user account first. After that, you can enter text or upload documents and then choose one of the eight available voices. As something new, it is now also possible to choose children’s voices. Talutøkni has published a video showing how to use the text-to-speech service.

The Dictus speech recognizer can write down what you say. The Talutøkni Foundation has arranged it so that all students can log in with their student account and use Dictus’s speech recognition tool. The tool can be installed on Windows computers and is also available via a web browser. On the Talutøkni Foundation’s Facebook page, you can see how to use Dictus.
