Centre for Language Technology
A steady foundation for the development of Faroese language technology
About the
Centre for Language Technology
The Centre for Language Technology is a centre within The Faculty of Faroese Language and Literature at the University of the Faroe Islands.
At the Centre for Language Technology, research and development in Faroese language technology, which is an interdisciplinary field, are conducted. Therefore, the Centre is situated within The Faculty of Faroese Language and Literature and operates in close collaboration with the Faculty of Science and Technology. The Centre currently employs one researcher and one project assistant, in addition to an affiliated assistant professor.
The Centre for Language Technology oversees and manages a language technology infrastructure with data and resources. The resources are continuously updated and maintained, ensuring accessibility for various language technology purposes. The purpose of this is to support and serve as a hub for the development of language technology for Faroese.
At the Centre, we investigate which methods and approaches yield the best results and adapt them to Faroese conditions. We work on developing some small language technology tools that can assist language users. The Centre for Language Technology also collaborates with institutions and companies in the Faroe Islands and abroad, and all activities within the Centre are based on a vision of openness in data, resources, and research.
